Google's chairman has confirmed that Motorola is working on a range of handsets and claims it will redefine the concept of premium smartphones. Rumors and reports about a Motorola-built Google X Phone have been swirling around for almost six months and at the D:Dive  Mobile conference in New York, Eric Schmidt finally confirmed its existence by saying "[Motorola] have a new set of products, which are phenomenal, very, very impressive."

Apple is set for a possible summer launch of the next iPhone, rather than a fall launch like the last two models, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. Apple is also working on a cheaper iPhone model that could win it some market share in developing countries, the paper said. It cited unnamed people "familiar with the device's production."

Computer experts from Germany have warned people to be more careful while surfing the internet as malicious programs called "drive-by downloads" can be downloaded unintentionally when users visit "manipulated websites".
