Designer Meera Ali, who is known for her minimalistic yet elegant
collections, launched her prêt line along with her younger daughter Sama
on the final day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW)
Sunday.
The collection was launched under her label Kotwara, a
joint venture of Meera and husband and filmmaker Muzaffar Ali. However
her new range was titled Kotwara by Meera Ali.
Asked about the
absence of her husband's name from the label, Meera told IANS: "This is
our ready to wear line which I want to bring in with my daughter Saba
and Muzaffar is busy spending his time on his couture line so he took a
break this time to give his 100 percent on that. I think by next season,
one will see an absolutely different collection from us."
The
designer showcased a collection which was mix of tunics, shirts,
trousers and jackets made of wool, suede, chiffon and crepe. The colour
palette ranged from black, blue, grey, brown to burgundy and emerald
green.
"The collection targets young modern women who want to be
confident and look glamorous without going overboard. The designs have
minimal embroidery but maximum structure. I hope my daughter creates a
place in the fashion industry through this collection," Meera said.
Like
many designers this season, she also chose to add glamour quotient with
actor Irrfan Khan, who walked for the label in a beige suit and green
muffler.
The 49-year-old, who is known for his introvertish nature, confidently walked the ramp.
"I
am the admirer of her work and it is always privilege and honour to
wear her clothes. I also appreciate the way she utilises design
aesthetics to bring out nice collection," he said.
