Actress Lara Dutta unveiled her sari collection Monday in association with Chhabra 555 and says her designs are "affordable". Her
collection is titled Lara Dutta Chhabra 555 and covers every aspect of
contemporary fabrics and designs, including velvet and net saris with
heavy Swarovski and pearl work, and Banarasi silk weaves.
"The
inspiration was everyday women. The idea was to cater to every age
group. The collection was targeted towards festival and bridal wear. At
any wedding your mother wants to wear something and your grandmother
wants to wear something, so we wanted to give them a one stop shop,"
Lara told IANS.
"You have sober saris like Banarasi weaves and
contemporary saris with the net and the crystal. We wanted to create
something special to create a line that was affordable, yet
aspirational," she added.
For the 34-year-old, designing saris was far more exciting than designing western wear.
"I think an average Indian woman carries sari much better than they carry western wear," she said.
Lara worked with Asheeta Chhabra, head, business development, of Chhabra 555, and completed it in six months.
The collection has total 47 designs and price range starts from Rs.15,000 to Rs 55,000.
Asheeta Chhabra said Lara's image of an independent successful woman was in sync with their luxury line.
"We
wanted to launch luxury designs and associate with somebody who would
represent today's women. Lara is a entrepreneur, successful in fashion
world and great mother. She is someone with whom our customer can relate
to. She is has an innate style statement. She was actively involved in
designing and it was great working with her," Chhabra told IANS.
