HMV is sold to Hilco, may save 2500 jobs

Restructuring specialist Hilco has clinched a deal to rescue music and DVD retailer HMV, the BBC reported. Hilco, which already owns HMV Canada, said it had acquired 132 HMV shops and all nine branches of the Fopp chain in a deal that could save 2,500 jobs.

The latest Halifax House Price Index show property increased 0.2% in March, following a 0.5% increase the previous month. Prices are also up 1.1% since March last year, the third consecutive rise, and up 1.2% on last quarter, a fourth successive increase.

Samsung profits rise by a huge 53%

Samsung has reported a 53pc rise in operating profit for the first quarter, beating expectations during a traditionally slow period for consumer electronics sales. The world's largest maker of smartphones, memory chips and televisions estimated on Friday that operating income rose 53pc to around 8.7 trillion won (£5.1bn) in the three months to the end of March, as sales grew 15pc from a year earlier to 52 trillion won.

Hyderabad to host conference on sustainable tourism
