Pakistan will temporarily block mobile phone services in sensitive areas
of the country as part of security measures during Eid celebrations
Saturday. The cellular service will remain suspended from 6 a.m.
to 10 a.m. in specific areas of 10 select cities, Xinhua quoted Interior
Minister Rehman Malik as saying Friday.
He did not disclose the
names of the cities. Malik said the decision was taken after receiving
inputs from intelligence agencies and provincial governments.
Pakistan
will celebrate Eid-ul-Adha Saturday. Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Adha in
honour of Prophet Ibrahim, who was even ready to sacrifice his son
Ismail to please Allah.
According to Muslim belief, Allah
replaced Ismail with a sheep just as Ibrahim was about to slit his
throat - hence the tradition of sacrificing an animal.
